Senior / Lead Electrical Engineer / Technologist

Delta Wye Engineering is looking for a Senior / Lead Electrical Engineer / Technologist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years consulting experience in MV and HV power systems for industrial facilities such as pulp and paper, mining, and independent power producers.

This position is office based, in beautiful Kelowna, BC, or in Calgary, AB. As a young growing company, you can expect lots of opportunities for growth and career development during your tenure at Delta Wye. This will be a key position for the company, reporting directly to the president. A high degree of ownership and responsibility for successful execution of projects is required.

Salary and total compensation will be highly competitive for the industry, based on skills and demonstrated success in previous employment. Total compensation will be in the range of $140,000 - $225,000 CAD, based on skills, attitude and demonstrated success in previous employment.

You will be responsible for the design, development, project management, and delivery of medium and high voltage power systems projects for our industrial and IPP customers. Maintaining strong relationships with customers and co-workers is essential. The successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving and can think outside the box for challenging projects. Some domestic and international travel will be required.

How you’ll spend your time:

  • Work on a high diversity of power systems projects, including but not limited to substation design, switchgear design, generator interconnections, and others
  • Perform and review power system studies such as short circuit, load flow, arc flash, protection and coordination, grounding, harmonic, and dynamic stability, using EasyPower, SKM, or ETAP
  • Create setting sheets and perform programming for various protection relays, especially SEL relays
  • Prepare and draft construction packages for contractors, which include layout drawings, cable lists, schematics, wiring details, and specification documents
  • Create design drawings for installation based on electrical code requirements (NEC and CEC), following IEEE and CSA standards
  • Design and program SCADA systems
  • Meet with customers to explain design concepts, review specifications, and present engineering reports
  • Write specifications for electrical equipment
  • Manage projects, tasks, and schedules using cloud-based tech tools
  • Travel to job sites in Canada and the USA – travel of approximately 25%

What you will need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering / or relevant technical association
  • Minimum of 6 years’ engineering experience in MV and HV electrical systems
  • Minimum of 3 years’ consulting experience, preferably at industrial or IPP facilities
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration with EGBC, or have a US PE designation, or technical association
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical codes standards including the CEC, the NEC, and IEEE standards
  • Great computer skills, especially the ability to use Excel for calculations
